IMO Consultant leader, Dr Trevor Duffy, has welcomed confirmation by the HSE of plans to recruit 120 Consultants, comprising 20 cancer strategy posts (advertised today, Thursday, April 10th) and 19 Consultant psychiatrist positions.
“The filling of these posts is essential to reversing the sustained cutback in services provided to patients which has untold distress amongst patients, their families and the medical profession,” according to Dr Duffy.
“This breakthrough follows demands for the resumption of recruitment made at the recent IMO AGM and at a meeting arranged by the IMO with the Minister for Health and Children. The recruitment campaign resumed following acceptance by the HSE at contract talks that the contractual terms for these posts will be finalised with the IMO.”
The IMO represents 850 Consultants and 4,500 NCHDs.
